What is Ghana's homecoming tourism event?

Ghana's homecoming tourism event is a campaign that invites people of African descent from all over the world to visit Ghana and celebrate their identity and culture. The campaign was launched in 2019, under the name "Year of Return", to mark the 400th anniversary of the first enslaved Africans arriving in Jamestown, Virginia. The campaign was a huge success, attracting over 1.5 million visitors, including celebrities such as Naomi Campbell, Steve Harvey, and Idris Elba.

The campaign was extended in 2020, under the name "Beyond the Return", to continue the momentum and foster a lasting relationship between Ghana and the diaspora. The campaign has 7 pillars, namely: Experience Ghana, Invest in Ghana, Diaspora Pathways to Ghana, Celebrate Ghana, Brand Ghana, Give Back to Ghana, and Learn about Ghana.
